It’s Tough Starting a New Business

Welcome to The Business Builder Online Blog.  This blog is all about starting and running a new business, particularly the online bits of business building, you know, the bit that causes most of the headaches for new business owners.

I have built my business around the lessons I learnt as a new business owner, the mistakes I made, the money I wasted and the time I spent doing all sorts of stuff that I didn’t need to do. Can you relate to any of this yet? Well I can pretty much guarantee that you soon will.

Starting a new business is a tough challenge to take on. The biggest problem is that we don’t know what we don’t know, and that usually leads to all the mistakes and mishaps that occur during our first year or so.

The first mistake people usually make (and in many cases, the most costly), is that they think the first thing they need is a website. Because they don’t know anything about websites they will go and pay extortionate amounts of money to have one built for them.

Let me tell you right now, if you are being charged more than £200 for a basic website you are being ripped off. Come and speak to me and I’ll get one built for you in just one morning – and I’ll show you how to maintain and manage it yourself so that you don’t have to keep forking out every time you need a new page adding.

To be honest, the first thing you need to sort out is your branding as you will need to add this to your website before you promote it. Branding doesn’t have to be expensive either.

You can get a logo done for as little as £5. My cartoon lady cost me just £10  – you can also create your own logo for free using a simple online tool. If you would like to get all this set up and working for you in just one week why not come and join me on my Business Builder 5 day course, it’s only £350* for the whole week. (*price increases to £500 from Sept 2019)

If you would like some help with the order in which you should build your business, you can get a free copy of my Business Basics Guide here. If you build it in the right order it will be more successful faster as one thing will help with another.

Okay, I’m off now to create some posters for my new office/training room. I still get so excited when my business develops and grows, it never gets tired.

I’ve set myself some pretty big goals this year and my new office is just one of them, I’ll be letting you know how to create goals you simply can’t fail at in another post so keep an eye out for it, or subscribe to the blog and I’ll drop you a quick email each time I publish something new.

  1. Hello would you mind sharing which blog platform you’re working with?
I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m having a difficult
time choosing between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your design and style seems
different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique.
P.S My apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!

    1. Hi Adelaida, I use the WordPress platform. It is simple to use and has lots of free themes and plugins so that you can get your website looking exactly how you like it.

  2. Howdy! This is kind of off topic but I need some guidance
from an established blog. Is it tough to set up your own blog?

I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty fast.
I’m thinking about making my own but I’m not sure where to begin. Do you have
any ideas or suggestions? Many thanks

    1. Hi Lin, It’s easy enough to start one but it takes patience and determination to keep one going and making money. Have a look at my resources page where you will find a free 7 day email course “Blogging Basics For Beginners” It will teach you all you need to know to get started.
